Data Shares vs. Data Feeds
Accessing Listings from Other MLSs: Data Shares vs. Data Feeds
Overview
A data share between MLSs does not give you a data feed for the other MLS. To pull another MLS's listings into your website or app through Repliers, you need your own membership in that MLS and a separate Repliers subscription to its feed.
This guide is for agents, brokers and developers who can already see another MLS's listings in their MLS software and want to know why those listings don't appear in their Repliers feed.
What a data share is
A data share is an agreement between two or more MLSs that lets their members see each other's listings. These agreements are common, and they're why you may see listings from a neighbouring board when you search in your MLS system.
The access a data share gives you stays inside the MLS software. You can search, view and work with the shared listings there, but the agreement does not extend to the data feeds that power websites, apps and other tools.
Data share vs. data feed
A data feed delivers an MLS's listing data directly to your own website, app or system, for example through Repliers. Feed access is licensed per MLS, so a data share with another board doesn't carry over to it.
Data share | Data feed (through Repliers) | |
|---|---|---|
Where you see the listings | Inside your MLS software | Your website, app or other tools |
How you get it | Through your MLS's agreement with another board | A Repliers subscription for that specific MLS |
Membership needed | Your home MLS only | Membership in each MLS whose feed you want |
Covers other MLSs automatically | Yes, those in the share agreement | No, each MLS is a separate subscription |
Getting feeds for additional MLSs
To receive listing data from another MLS through Repliers, you need both of the following for each MLS:
- Membership in that MLS. The MLS must approve your access to its data, which it only grants to its own members.
- A separate Repliers subscription to that MLS's feed. Each MLS feed is its own subscription; adding one doesn't add any others.
Once both are in place, that MLS's listings can be delivered to you through Repliers alongside your existing feed.
Frequently asked questions
I can see another board's listings in my MLS. Why aren't they in my feed?
Those listings come to you through a data share, which only covers viewing them in the MLS software. Your feed includes only the MLSs you're a member of and subscribed to through Repliers.
Can my home MLS approve a feed of the shared listings for me?
No. Each MLS controls its own data, so feed access has to come from the MLS that owns the listings, through your membership there.
If I join a second MLS, will its listings appear automatically?
No. You'll also need to set up a separate Repliers subscription for that MLS's feed.
Does every MLS need its own subscription?
Yes. Each MLS feed is subscribed to separately.
